The Index Storage Handling Layer offers facilities for persistent placement of the index state for all natures of indices handled as part of the Index Management Framework. It uses the Content Management Service as a placeholder for the binary payload of indices, which is staged locally in each node for ensuring the high performance of the indexing system.
